What they sayAbout us

The hotel staff are very polite and kind and helpful. The town is right on your door step.Even a spar shop on the corner! Nothing is too much trouble. My girlfriend and I visited Madeira in early June. After having friends and family laugh at us saying 'What are you... Retired' and being the only people on the plane under 50, we were apprehensive. The hotel was absolutely lovely. Victor and the other young guy on the desk were especially helpful (and funny) giving us touristy info. We find it embarrassing as English expecting everyone to speak our language, and everyone in the hotel was very patient and friendly in our failed attempts at Portuguese, but at least we tried - they all spoke perfect English. The hotel is everything a young couple on a budget could ask for. My impression is that 20-30 years ago this hotel was one of the leading 4/5*s in the area and has been very well maintained but not updated - however this gives it character. - Only downside is the lack of air-con. But that did not bother us. Pool - cute little freshwater pool on the roof, is nice for a little dip in the morning. Breakfast - standard continental to start you off for the day, before getting some of the AMAZING food the city has to offer. - The bread roles were really nice - I think they were fresh every morning Overall - very, very good value for money - If you're a hotel snob and pick up on every little detail, may not be for you. - But if youre looking for an absolute bargain, and a 3* that is bordering a 4* then stay here. - 10 minute walk from centre (steep hill down to the city - red wine fuelled walk back up)

If you are looking for a small hotel with the town centre 10 minutes walk down hill and the port for a trip to Porto Santo only 5 minutes walk down an even steeper hill then this is for you.The hotel has the added bonus of a small roof top pool with sea views, we had this to ourselves most afternoons during our weeks holiday. The hotel has clean rooms with a small kitchenette. The beds for both of us were slightly hard but that's personal taste. The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them, especially Duarte on reception. We had half board option which is taken in the small Italian restaurant Benin. The breakfast is cold meat, cheese, jam and excellent bread rolls, enough to start your day. The choices for evening meal were good and the food is beautifully cooked and presented. I agree with other reviewers that this is certainly value for money. We hired a fan as no air con and the road noise only really bothered us the first night.

My husband and I and our friend stayed at the Imperatriz in Funchal for a week end of February until 8th March. The welcome we received was great. The lads on reception were very helpful in particular Duarte was more than willing to help us with information about Funchal, how to get around the area, he was always professional, friendly and always welcomed you with a lovely happy smile no matter what time of day it was. Funchal is a lovely place because my grandson (he's only 9 years old) is a Ronaldo fan we visited the CR7 Museum, which was a treat and a great morning out and gave us the chance to get some gifts for him. I only have praise for this hotel, the area, and the staff

This is a small simple hotel, it is a three star afterall but the staff was very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The room was very clean and adequately furnished with everything you require. We stayed for a week and found it to be well placed for a walk into Funchal. We had a side room so had a bit of a sea view. The hotel was quiet and we had no trouble sleeping. We are hoping to return to this hotel in near the future and also travel to their sister hotel Estalagem do Vale for a few days. If you want a budget hotel close to the harbour and city center then you would do well to try this one.
